Ash Class Newsletter: A Morning Full of Curiosity and Creativity
Busy and purposeful as ever in EYFS, the learners in Ash Class were brimming with enthusiasm this morning as they shared what they’ve been working on.
Marni proudly announced, “I have made a picture of a rainbow with clouds and the sun.”
Arabella was equally excited to talk about her achievements: “I have done two challenges on the challenge mountain and put my flag on with my photograph. I have made a pirate’s hat and finished some patterns. We are going to the hall to do PE, so we are going to change into some PE clothes.”
Theo was keen to share his musical favourite: “My favourite nursery rhyme is ‘The Wheels on the Bus’.”
Darcey added, “We have rhyme spoons for ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and lots and lots more.”
Meanwhile, Toby, Ralph and Henry worked together to build an impressive three‑part house — complete with a special place for the post to be delivered.
Ash Class continues to be a hive of imagination, teamwork and joyful learning. What a wonderful start to the day.
Spikeball Report by Sophia, Millie, Tilly and Rupert
On Thursday 19th March Y6 went to The Cooper School to participate in a Spikeball festival. Three other schools accompanied us. Cooper School students introduced us to Spikeball, which is more complicated than it looks. Spikeball involves a net resembling a small trampoline with a diameter of about 1.1m. You could compare it to volleyball because you have to hit the ball with your palms without letting it touch the ground; your palm gives you a stronger force. There are quite a few ways to score, for example if the opposing team hits the ball onto the rim or the other team can’t return the ball. To start off your rally you must spike the ball onto the net using a forceful throw or push down into the net. It was lots of fun and we would be keen to play again.
Sporting Success
Congratulations to Sebastian Bucknell who won no fewer than eleven gold medals at The Maxwell Swimming Club swimming gala last weekend. He achieved eight Personal Best times. Sebastian’s favourite events are the 50m and 100m breaststroke races.
Easter Service
The Easter Service has been planned by the Year 6 pupils working with Rev’d Sarah. Everyone is welcome to join us at 9.30am in St. Mary’s Church. If you are able to help with crossing the road safely, please let Ms Paterson or Mrs Terry know.
Cake Sale
Join year 6 after school on Thursday 19th March for a cake sale organised by me (Ella) with the assistance of a year 6 team. We will be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society by donating the proceeds to help sponsor my Mum (Louise Warnock) to complete a 75km ultra walk in one day! Lots of yummy cakes guaranteed. Donations of small cakes on the day of the sale would also be appreciated, as well as customers to buy them, please.

Big Walk and Wheel
We are participating in the Big Walk and Wheel.
The Big Walk and Wheel is the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. It inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit their world. We encourage all pupils to come to school by foot, bike or scooter. We will enter our journeys into the database where we will be entered into prize draws to win prizes for our school.

Safety
The playground gates are opened at 3.10pm to allow parents and carers to collect children more easily than from the car park. If you have a small child with you, they must not climb on school equipment. The trim trail looks superficially like climbing equipment found in some public play areas but it has been designed to be safely used under teacher supervision only and by older pupils.
The Parish Hall car park and surrounding area present significant challenges. Please do not park on the corner, obscuring the view round the bend, as this is dangerous: this is not a safe space to leave a vehicle. Please supervise young children closely in this area.
Online Safety Guides for Parents/Carers.
Just a reminder we have children in school with serious allergies please do not send your child in with items containing nuts, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter and products containing a chocolate filling like Nutella or chocolate bars containing nuts. We have had a few occasions recently where we have found items have been sent into school in packed lunches which contain nuts.
