Sports Day - Friday 20th June 2025
We are advised by OCC that UK Health Security Agency has upgraded the Health-Heat Alert to Amber for the South East and the Met office forecast is for 30 degrees tomorrow afternoon.
There will be no sports outside tomorrow afternoon.
We really want the event to go ahead in some form tomorrow because rescheduling is not practical and children will be hugely disappointed to miss sports day.
With your help, we will squeeze both events into the morning, with a short break in the middle to allow reception and Key Stage 1 parents to leave and the key Stage 2 parents to arrive. All children should arrive at school wearing their PE kits.
9am (or as soon as possible thereafter) Reception and KS1 RACES.
10.30am until lunchtime KS2 RACES.
Please see email sent to parents 19th June at 2pm.
Report from Beech Class about the visit yesterday by Beech and Chestnut Classes to Waddesdon manor -
Yesterday, Beech Class visited Waddesdon Manor to learn about Greek myths. First, we went in the house and recognised the gods and goddesses from a painting on the roof. This painting was made in 1725 which is 300 hundred years ago. The house was only built in 1890 so they had to bring the painting there. There were also some shovels so that whenever a royal came to the house they planted a tree. In 1893 Queen Victoria planted a fir tree (only 3 years after it was made)!
Reported by Amy
When we went inside of the house we went to this room with a big painting on the ceiling. It has 12 Greek gods or goddesses. Some of them were Aphrodite, Zeus, Hera, Aries, Artemis, Hercules and Poseidon.
Reported by Barney, Finlay and Freddie
There were lots of fountains but my favourite was one with Hades and Persephone. I could tell that Hades was stealing Persephone because Hades is trying not to let Persephone go. She is trying to get away.
There was a statue of Heracles holding the skin of a lion, and tambourine. You could tell how old he was because one statue had him with a beard. The other statue was of him opening the lion’s mouth, without a beard.
Reported by Orlaith
After that, we walked to the fountain and learnt about how Hades kidnapped Persephone. Next we followed the staff to a statue of Heracles, who completed the twelve labours. He was holding a lion skin that he got from a lion. Then we all sat under a tree for lunch. When we finished we played on the field that had fancy lines on them.
Next we walked down a hill to the stables, where horses used to be kept. We went to a room and learnt about Greek pottery. Then we made a pot ourselves, we copied Greek patterns. After that, our class walked back to meet Chestnut Class. It was a great day at Waddesdon Manor.
