Message from Ms Walker
What a week it has been! I hope you have all managed to stay safe and well during the extreme heat. I would like to say a huge thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation with the disruption to the school day following the red weather warning. We very much appreciated your support, and it was reassuring that the local authority also backed our decision. Looking ahead, the forecast appears more promising, and we are hopeful that we can return to a more normal routine next week.
This week's news is from Chestnut Class (Year 5)
Chestnut and Oak classes had a fantastic educational visit to Hill End on Monday 22nd June! The pupils put their teamwork to the test with orienteering and a variety of exciting woodland challenges.
The challenges included were: The Spiders Web, The Blind Fold Trust Game, Cross the Ravine and The Traversing Wall. They all helped Chestnut Class to learn how to work together and solve problems as a team. Also how to work safely as a responsible member of a team.
Finely said, “I liked doing the orienteering with Joshua and Freddie. It was a great team work.”
“The rock wall was so hard but me and Finley tried and did quite well,” said Joshua.
“I loved to cross the bridge using the wooden planks,” said Lily.
Fleur said, “The bridge building was entertaining because we had to keep improving our skills and had a lot of discussion about it as a team.”
“My favourite part was when I wore the blindfold and we had to crawl through tubes, under nets and so many other obstacles,” said Layla.
Freddie added, “It was so hot but we did a bridge game with planks and we helped each other as a team to get through the spider web without touching the red rope.”
Prayer Space
Focus: Fruits of the Spirits
This week in Prayer Space, the children took part in a range of reflective activities exploring the Christian values of patience, gentleness, joy, kindness, faithfulness and self-control. They were encouraged to slow down and practise patience using sand timers and calming visuals, think about the impact of gentle and kind words, and reflect on what brings them joy through quiet moments of gratitude. The children also considered how they can show kindness and faithfulness in their friendships, taking on small challenges and making thoughtful commitments to others. Finally, they explored self-control, using simple activities to help them recognise and manage their feelings. It was a calm, thoughtful space where children could pause, reflect and, if they wished, pray.
Message from the Parish Council
We’re pleased to share that building work on site will begin on Monday 6th July.
To support this, a section of the area behind the school hall will be used for skips and work vehicles. This will extend only as far as the first tree behind the hall, leaving approximately seven parking spaces available.
The area will be clearly marked out by Sunday 5th July to help everyone see where access is limited.
We anticipate that the majority of the work will take place during the school holidays, helping to minimise disruption to the school day.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Transition Days
We are looking forward to supporting children with their upcoming transitions in school.
For our Nursery children moving into Reception, we have planned two transition sessions:
- Tuesday 30th June, 9.30–10.30am – with parents
- Tuesday 7th July, 9.30–10.30am – without parents
In addition, all children will take part in an in-school transition morning on Tuesday 7th July, where they will spend time with their new class teacher for September. More information on this to follow.
We hope these opportunities help children feel confident and excited about the next step in their school journey.
Updates & Reminders
Allergies
Just a reminder we have children in school with serious allergies please do not send your child in with items containing nuts, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter and products containing a chocolate filling like Nutella or chocolate bars containing nuts. We have had a few occasions recently where we have found items have been sent into school in packed lunches which contain nuts.
Safety
A friendly reminder to all parents and carers: children in Year 4 and below must be accompanied onto the school site by an adult and should not be dropped off to walk in alone. This applies to all arrivals, including Breakfast Club and late arrivals to school.
Children in Years 5 and 6 may arrive unaccompanied if they have permission from their parents/carers; however, they must not be responsible for bringing younger siblings onto the school site.
The Parish Hall car park and surrounding area present significant challenges. Please do not park on the corner, obscuring the view round the bend, as this is dangerous: this is not a safe space to leave a vehicle. Please supervise young children closely in this area.
