News this week is being reported by the youngest and the oldest children in school…

This term, Ash class have been busy learning about travelling, journeys and different countries. Our exploratory question has been “Where will you go in the world?” We have been discussing which transport people use to travel around the world and which transport may have been used in the past. In our art sessions, we have been drawing and painting our own mode of transport that we would use to travel around the world. In addition, we have also been learning a lot about the United Kingdom and where we live within it. To help us identify the UK, we have used maps and developed our observational skills when looking at where different countries are and what might surround them.

The children are very proud to be able to share with you some facts about the UK;

“There are four countries.” – Jonny

“People travelled in the past by horses because there were no cars.” – Jonny

“The United Kingdom is the land and the blue around it is the sea.” – Alice

“England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland are the UK.” – Alfie P

“We live in England.” – Jameson

“The United Kingdom is on planet Earth.” – Arlo

“Our capital city is London and the United Kingdom flag is red, blue and white.” – Selena

“Our school is in Launton.” – Willow

“Bicester is the nearest town.” – Jenson

Year 6 have used the opportunity of their SATs this week to show how knowledgeable, mature and resilient they are. We are exceptionally proud of them for applying themselves with the quiet diligence that characterises pupils from Launton and prepares them so well for the next stage of their education.

SATs report by Year 6

This week we have been taking our Year 6 SATs. We have prepared well and have practiced during our Year 6 workshops during and after school.  Because of this, we were comfortable with the level of difficulty.  We have actually found them easier than the PIRA and PUMA assessment we usually take!

We feel we have shown the school values of resilience as we kept on going throughout the four days and didn’t waste a single minute of the tests. Some of us were a bit nervous to begin with, but we showed another school value- courage and we were fine. We would like to say thank you to Mrs Brydon for being a great invigilator. We would also like to say thank you to the rest of the school. They stayed quiet whilst we were doing our SATs and that meant we could concentrate and do our best.

We had a deer visit the school field on the first day (see Year 5’s report), we took it as a good luck charm!

Important information from Willow Class

Willow Class has decided they would like to support Bicester Food Bank. If you are able to make any donations of non-perishable food, please send it into school with your child any time up till Thursday 22nd May 2025. Thank you in advance for your support.

Launton News Report by Year 5

On Monday 12th May, a deer was seen trying to escape the school grounds. Although we can’t be certain of how it managed to get into the school forest, we suspect that it burrowed underneath the fence.

The Year 6 children were unaware of the events unfolding as they were busy completing their SATs. Meanwhile, in Chestnut class, faces were pressed against the window trying to get a glimpse of the frightened animal.

Mrs Staker opened the gate in the hope that the deer would find its way out: it didn’t. We realised it was no use; we needed to call the experts.

At around 12.15pm, the experts arrived to help safely remove the deer from the field. After some difficulty, they finally managed to catch the deer and released it into a nearby field; just in time for the afternoon P.E lessons to commence.
